The report claims Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is prepared to splash the cash in the January transfer window in an effort to fund a Premier League title push. Top of his wishlist continues to be Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao, and the Blues boss is looking to supplement that capture with the signing of Shakhtar Donetsk star Willian.
The Daily Express claims that would mean Chelsea’s strikeforce would be worth a whopping £150m. Fernando Torres was purchased from Liverpool for £50m in January 2011, and Romelu Lukaku - currently on-loan at West Bromwich Albion - for £18m from Anderlecht.
Add to that the potential £50m spent on Falcao, and, according to the report, a £35m move for Brazilian star Willian, and Chelsea’s attacking quartet would be worth in excess of £150m.
The report also suggests Abramovich has invited Falcao to Chelsea’s training centre in an effort to persuade the Colombian international to sign for the Blues.
The Atletico Madrid striker has been in sensational form since joining the La Liga club from Porto – hitting 43 goals in 50 league games – a total second only to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Interim Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez has hinted at possible additions in January, as the former-Liverpool boss looks to provide support for Fernando Torres. The two worked together at Anfield, and so far Benitez has succeeded in bringing out the best in Torres.
Both Willian and Falcao have shown Chelsea fans what they can do this season. Falcao hit a hat-trick in the Super Cup final against the Stamford Bridge club in August, while Willian helped Shakhtar qualify for the Champions League knock-out round, at the expense of the Blues.
