Javier Hernandez is targeting a starting spot at Manchester United, a club he believes is the 'biggest in the world'.

The Mexican international netted a last-minute winner against Newcastle on Boxing Day to extend Manchester United's lead at the top of the Premier League table to seven points.

And the Old Trafford striker now wants a regular starting place in the team, after watching on from the bench as Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie remained first-choice.

"Ask any player in the world and they will tell you they want to play ever game," Hernandez said on Goal.com. "But the competition here is incredible. It is the biggest club in the world. You need to be aware there are five strikers who want to be part of the games.

"I have to prove, in one minute or 90, that I want to start."

United have four top-class strikers - Rooney, Van Persie, Hernandez and Danny Welbeck - and the former-Chivas forward has struggled to cement a regular place in Sir Alex Ferguson's starting 11 this season.

But with Rooney injured for two-to-three weeks, and Welbeck currently sidelined through illness, Hernandez has a great chance to stake his place in the team.

Against Newcastle, the Mexican wasted a number of great chances before eventually finding the net in the 90th minute, and Hernandez revealed the secret to success as a striker is to not let the missed chances get to you.

"I didn't have those things in my mind," Hernandez said. "You cannot afford to regret every chance you miss because if you do you will never be at full concentration for the next opportunity."
