Leon Clarke on trial at Coventry City

Published Add your comment

Coventry City fans received a Christmas present from the club after they confirmed that Leon Clarke is currently on trial at the Ricoh Arena, as the Sky Blues ponder a move for the 27-year-old striker.

Mark Robins has taken the Charlton Athletic frontman on trial to cast his eye over the former Scunthorpe loanee ahead of making a decision on his future in January.

Clarke, who spent much of the season on loan at Glanford Park, has been in sensational form for the Iron, hitting 11 goals in 15 games during his loan spell with the League One outfit.

However, the deal that took Clarke to Scunthorpe on a temporary basis has now expired, and it looks likely that the former Wolves trainee will be joining the Sky Blues to reinforce the clubs attacking options, with Robins' men relying heavily on another loanee - David McGoldrick.

Many Sky Blues fans fear this move will signal the end of McGoldrick's temporary stay, with the prolific forward set to return to parent club Nottingham Forest in the New Year as a whole host of teams chase the ex-Southampton striker's signature.

However, a small minority of the Coventry faithful are dreaming of a McGoldrick and Clarke strike partnership that would undoubtedly help propel the club into the League One play-off places during the second half of the season.
