Chelsea midfielder Ramires has expressed his delight at being the only Brazilian to be included in the European Team of the Year by respected French publication L'Equipe.

Ramires played an integral part in helping Chelsea to glory in the Champions League and FA Cup last season and has been in impressive form for the Blues so far this campaign.

The 25-year-old scored 12 times for Chelsea last term, including a memorable strike against Barcelona at the Camp Nou, and the Stamford Bridge star has spoken of his pride at receiving recognition from L'Equipe.

"I was very proud when I received the news that I was in the selection in this year's L'Equipe team, an honour to be part of this select group of players and a pleasure to represent football in Brazil," Ramires told Super Esportes.

"I’ve really lived a magical year with winning the Champions League. I thank my fellow family, friends and all who support me. Having this recognition is rewarding and gives me even more motivation to move forward."

Ramires may be the only Brazilian inclusion, but the Chelsea ace is not the only Premier League player to make the team, with Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany also named in the XI.

The team is, however, dominated by players from Spain, with the likes of Iker Casillas, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo joined by five other players from La Liga.

Philipp Lahm, captain of the Bayern Munich team which lost to Chelsea in the Champions League final, is the only other player from outside of Spain.
