Tottenham Hotspur U19s have lost their last game in the NextGen Series group stage, suffering a 2-0 defeat at The Enfield Training Centre against RSC Anderlecht.

Anderlecht now qualify as runners-up behind FC Barcelona in Group 1, but Spurs are also threw as one of the four best third-placed teams.

Before the start of this crucial match, Tottenham were well-positioned in second-place on eight points - two more than the Belgians.

John McDermott will have wanted his side to maintain that lead, and Spurs started strongly looking for the opener. Anderlecht goalkeeper Davy Roef kept his team on level terms with some beautiful saves, and at the other end stopper Lawrence Vigouroux made a crucial save for the north London outfit just before half-time.

The visitors kept pushing forward however, and in the 58th minute Leander Dendoncker opened the scoring on the counter-attack.

In the final stages, midfielder Michael Heylen doubled the advantage when he slotted home from close range after his own penalty had been saved. Alexandre De Bruyne cut the rebound back to his captain, who slotted home past the unfortunate Vigouroux.

The final result means Spurs still have a chance of winning the trophy for the first time this season, after elimination for fielding an ineligible player in the quarter-final last term.
