Chelsea are ready to make Radamel Falcao that club’s highest earner by offering him a £200,000-per-week deal in order lure him to Stamford Bridge.
The Atletico Madrid striker has forged a reputation as one of the deadliest finishers on the planet over the past two seasons, and is currently La Liga’s third highest scorer with 13 goals, behind only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Both Chelsea and Manchester City are said to be in the hunt for his signature during the January transfer window, but will have to stump up around £48 million in order to activate the release clause in the Colombian’s contract.
According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are ready to go one step further than that by not only offering up the best part of £50 million, but by also installing Falcao as the top earner at Stamford Bridge.
The paper reports that Chelsea will put forward a deal of around £200,00-per-week in order to keep Falcao away from the clutches of Manchester City – a deal that would him above Fernando Torres as the club’s biggest earner.
The Spaniard takes home around £175,000-per-week and would not only see his status as the club’s biggest earner challenged but also his place as Chelsea’s leading striker.
Torres’ form has picked up of late under new boss Rafael Benitez, but the writing may already be on the wall for the striker who has struggled badly since moving to Chelsea for £50 million from Liverpool in January 2011.
