Tottenham were handed the tonic they needed after their sickening defeat against Everton last Sunday as long-term injury absentees Scott Parker and Benoit Assou-Ekotto returned to training today.

The pair have missed most of the season so far, with Parker having not played since the summer while Assou-Ekotto appeared three league games before picking up a knee injury in September.

Benoit-Akotto could barely contain his excitement over training with his Tottenham team-mates today, tweeting: ‘Trainning with the team today !!! I hope as i ll remember the name of every one LOL.' (sic)

Parker meanwhile has played two warm-up games in his comeback from an Achilles injury picked up while on England duty at Euro 2012, and is expected to be available for Tottenham’s fixture against Swansea on Sunday.

Spurs go into that game on the back of the demoralising defeat against Everton, which bought to an end their three game winning streak and dropped them down to 5th in the league table, behind the Toffees.
