Manchester United are being linked with a swoop for Mesut Ozil in the January transfer window, with the Real Madrid star reportedly out-of-favour with Jose Mourinho at the Santiago Bernabeu.
According to the Daily Express, Manchester United are the frontrunners to sign Ozil next month following reports of another bust-up with Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho.
It is claimed in the German press that Ozil's spat with Mourinho dates back to the 5-1 defeat of Deportivo La Coruna in September, when the midfield maestro was berated by his manager.
"With this performance, you are useless for Real Madrid," Mourinho told Ozil, according to Kreiszeitung.de.
This has led to renewed speculation that Manchester United could make an approach for Ozil in the January transfer window, with his future as a Real Madrid player seemingly in doubt.
Sir Alex Ferguson has been on the lookout for a long-term successor to Paul Scholes for some years, and missed out on the signing of Ozil when he left Werder Bremen for Real Madrid in the summer of 2010.
The Daily Express reports that Ozil, 24, could be the player to fill the void that will be left by Scholes when the Manchester United legend retires for good at the end of the season.
