Barton out for six weeks

Newcastle have confirmed midfielder Joey Barton will undergo surgery on Monday after suffering a fractured metatarsal.

The 24-year-old will be sidelined for around six weeks, ruling him out for the start of the new Barclays Premiership season, after fracturing the bone during Saturday´s 1-1 friendly draw at Carlisle.

A statement released on the club´s official website read: "The Magpies expect Joey to return in six weeks."
