England coach Steve McClaren insists he is not concerned at the number of foreign players plying their trade in the Barclays Premiership.
In March, McClaren handed Preston´s David Nugent his first senior cap, even though the striker had never played a top-flight game, while a lack of a successful right-sided alternative to David Beckham has seen the former skipper return to the national team fold to reinforce the argument that too many foreign players are hindering the development of homegrown talent.
And while McClaren does accept the base of his squad could be bigger, he said: "There has been a lot of debate about foreign players but, for me, foreign players have improved our league. The Premier League is the top league in the world and our players have to catch up and maintain that standard."
