Staunton inspired by Charlton era

Steve Staunton believes he is close to recreating the heady days of the Jack Charlton era within his Ireland squad.

Charlton, who awarded Staunton the first of his Irish record 102 caps, was renowned for the high morale and team spirit he created within his squads.

And now the former Liverpool and Aston Villa defender is a manager himself he is striving to equal the atmosphere which helped Charlton´s side reach the World Cup finals in 1990 and 1994.
