Portsmouth have decided Sol Campbell will not need an operation on his torn Achilles tendon during the close season.
Campbell missed four of the last six matches of the season and manager Harry Redknapp feared he would need surgery - even though the former England defender, 32, was thought to prefer rest as an alternative healing measure.
Pompey physio Gary Sadler said: "Sol doesn´t need surgery. The injury was feeling better towards the end of the season and he was able to do some gym work. He will have his own fitness programme during the summer and we will also give the Achilles plenty of rest."
