With Pep Guardiola stepping down at the end of last season, you would have been forgiven for thinking that Barcelona would start sliding down a slippery slope away from their former inspirational coach’s ideals.
Guardiola inspired a generation of tiki-taka geniuses who helped Barcelona not only sweep the board in terms of trophies, but were also held up by some as the greatest team to have played the game.
Picking up from the template put down by his mentor, Johan Cruyff, Guardiola installed a style of playing that helped Barcelona win no less than three consecutive league trophies as well as two Champions League titles.
But all good things must come to an end and the former Barcelona midfielder stepped down at the end of last season, citing exhaustion after a four year slog at the Nou Camp.
Luckily for fans of the Catalan giants, Guardiola’s right-hand man, Tito Vilanova, picked up the reins where his former boss left off and has overseen a continuation of the type of football most people associate with Barcelona.
With Real Madrid stuttering in the league Barcelona look on course to claim back the league title at the first attempt, while Vilanova will be hoping to guide the club to glory in the Champions League when he makes an emotional return from illness.
Under the new gaffer and now under coach Jordi Roura, Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Fabregas and the rest continue to weave their magic passing spells to score some pretty incredible goals.
And luckily for you, GMF has stumbled across this little You Tube treat, highlighting the very best team goals Barcelona have scored this season. Enjoy, and look forward to watching them when they return to action in the new year.
