Middlesbrough have denied claims they have agreed a £5.5million deal for Hibernian and Scotland midfielder Scott Brown.

However, they have admitted Gareth Southgate´s interest in the 21-year-old, who is being linked with several clubs including Old Firm rivals Celtic and Rangers.

Boro chief executive Keith Lamb said: "Despite suggestions to the contrary, we have not made a bid for Scott Brown. We have had discussions with Hibernian about the player, who is one of many on Gareth Southgate´s list of potential targets."
