Hannover have entered into negotiations with Arsenal over the proposed signing of Johan Djourou in the January transfer window, according to the Bundesliga club's president.

ESPN reports that Djourou could join Hannover on an initial loan deal until the end of the season - with the prospect of a permanent transfer - and talks between the two parties have already begun.

"I can confirm the name [of Djourou]," Hannover president Martin Kind told Bild. "He is on our list. There have been talks."

Djourou has not featured for Arsenal since the 7-5 defeat of Reading in the Capital One Cup in October and finds himself behind the likes of Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny in Arsene Wenger's selection order.

Wenger, meanwhile, has confirmed that he is in the market for reinforcements during the transfer window, and the acquisition of another goalscorer is expected to be a priority for the Arsenal boss.

A move for Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has been ruled out by Wenger, but the Gunners are reported to have made an enquiry for Atletico Madrid forward Adrian Lopez.
