Spurs came close to breaking their transfer record for Moutinho over the summer only to run out of time before the summer window slammed shut in August.
Since then Moutinho has hinted he would be willing to stay put at Porto, while reported interest from Paris Saint-Germain also made a move to Spurs seem further away.
However according to Goal.com, Tottenham have held talks with Porto over a potential deal after being encouraged by Moutinho’s representatives to do so.
There remains numerous obstacles in the way of a potential deal, chief of which being Porto’s continued participation in the Champions League.
The Portuguese club are also under no pressure to sell up after cashing in on Hulk over the summer, while whether the player himself will be open to a move remains uncertain.
Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas was keen on adding Moutinho to bolster his side’s creativity over the summer with Luka Modric on his way to Real Madrid, but was thwarted in his attempts to do so despite agreeing a record fee believed to be in excess of £22 million.
Despite that Spurs have been linked with moves for Lewis Holtby, Wesley Sneijder and Fernando Llorente since the window opened earlier this week.
