Chelsea captain John Terry has seemingly confirmed that Frank Lampard will leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season by claiming on his Instagram account that Lampard’s shirt ‘should be retired’ at the end of the season.
Lampard is yet to come to an agreement over a new deal with Chelsea to extend his stay with the west London club beyond the end of the season, with interim Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez has previously hinted that the England midfielder will leave in the summer along with fellow veteran Ashley Cole.
Terry, posting a picture on his Instragram page of him and Lampard with the FA Cup from 2007, wrote: “Devastated is an understatement. We should retire the number 8 shirt in honour of Lamps.”
A host of clubs have been linked with the 34-year-old, including Monaco, LA Galaxy as well as more recently numerous Italian teams.
Lampard is just one goal shy of becoming Chelsea’s joint-second highest goalscorer of all time, and has made almost 400 appearances for the Blues since joining form West Ham in 2001.
Yesterday Lampard’s agent denied quotes attributed to him claiming that the ‘only certainty is that he [Lampard] will change team at the end of the season."
