Aston Villa are weighing up a move for Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott. The England international is out-of-favour at the Etihad Stadium, and Roberto Mancini is reportedly willing to let him go this month. [Daily Mirror]

Victor Valdes has lent his support to international teammate Iker Casillas after the Real Madrid keeper was dropped by Jose Mourinho. The two shot-stoppers compete for the number one jersey for Spain, a position Casillas has occupied for most international competitions.

Sir Alex Ferguson is keeping a watchful eye on Theo Walcott's contract talks with Arsenal, according to reports in Manchester. The Old Trafford boss has stated he doesn't expect to do any serious business this month, but the report claims he remains interested in signing Walcott on a free transfer, if he fails to sign a new Gunners deal. But Arsene Wenger is confident the England international will put pen to paper, and commit his long-term future to the club. Walcott is thought to have rejected a £75,000-a-week deal last month, but Wenger remains hopeful that an agreement can be reached. [MEN]
