£14m Chelsea striker target set for Spanish stay
Chelsea transfer news: Alvaro Negredo does not have to be sold
Sevilla insist they do not have to sell Chelsea striker target Alvaro Negredo, and have already rejected an offer for the player.
TalkSPORT claims the La Liga outfit have rejected a £14 million bid for the 27-year-old forward, who is on the radar of a number of top clubs – including the Blues and Newcastle United.
Speculation is rife that the Spanish side will have to sell players in order to balance the books at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, but club president Jose Maria del Nido insists that is not the case.
"We do not need to sell now or in June," he told Diario de Sevilla, according to talkSPORT.
"There are bids on the table for seven players that have been rejected. Negredo, in particular, has refused an offer from a top European team."
Chelsea interim manager Rafael Benitez has been short of options in attack since taking over at Stamford Bridge, and has already strengthened in the January transfer window with the addition of Senegalese international Demba Ba.
However, Daniel Sturridge has also moved away from west London, meaning competition for Fernando Torres remains slim in west London, with just two senior strikers available.
Negredo now looks like an unlikely addition for Chelsea though, with Los Rojiblancos set to keep hold of their star players for the forseeable future.
