Arsenal are being linked with a January move for Anderlecht midfielder Lucas Biglia.
The seven-cap Argentine international is seen as an ideal replacement for Alex Song at the Emirates Stadium, according to The Independent, with the Gunners monitoring £8million-rated Biglia’s progress carefully in Belgium.
The same paper claims that the 26-year-old, who has two-years left on his current contract, was initially considered as a transfer option in the summer, and is back on the radar as Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger looks to strengthen in a number of key positions during the window.
A striker, full-back and central defender are the other areas of concern for the Arsenal manager, according to The Independent.
Reports in The Daily Mirror go on to claim that Biglia has told Anderlecht he wants to leave the club this month, putting the Gunners on alert over the possibility of a move.
Mohamed Diame and James McCarthy have also been linked with Arsenal, as the north London outfit consider their options.
Arsenal could face competition for the signature if they do make their move, with Premier League rivals Newcastle United also linked.
The Daily Mirror claims Toon chief Alan Pardew has taken a look at Biglia, and could look to add to the Argentine contingent at St. James’ Park.
Jonas Gutierrez and Fabricio Coloccini are both full internationals plying their trade with Newcastle United, and Pardew could look to use the pair in a bid to lure their compatriot north should a transfer battle ensue.
