Tottenham must wait for summer to land Brazil striker

Tottenham Hotspur have been told they will have to wait until the summer if they want to sign Leandro Damiao.

A report from talkSPORT claims Spurs were reportedly readying a £15million bid in the current transfer window, but now looks to be unsuccessful after recent comments from the Brazil international’s agent.

It also claims the Daniel Levy has been trying to bring Damiao to White Hart Lane for nearly two years and were hopeful of landing their man in this winter.

Interest in Damiao could be linked with the speculation surrounding Emmanuel Adebayor’s future at Spurs, with a number of reports claiming his time under Andre Villas-Boas is up.

The Internacional striker’s agent, Vinicus Prates, claimed no offer had been submitted for the player as yet and indicated it is probably not worth making.

"I have not received any offers, I can assure you,” he is quoted as saying to Zero Hora.

"It is normal to see rumours because he is a fashionable player in Europe but I don't think he will leave in January because he is happy at Internacional and under contract until 2015."

Jermain Defoe has been Villas-Boas’ preferred choice as the central striker in his system since taking over at White Hart Lane in the summer, but he may be the only option if no other forward can be recruited in January.

Adebayor this week decided to U-turn on his decision to retire from international football and has joined up with the Togo squad for their Africa Cup of Nations, which could see him unavailable for anywhere between two and five weeks.
