Arsenal are considering a move for Bundesliga striker Adam Szalai in a bid to bolster their attacking option the January transfer window.
According to a report in the Daily Express, Arsene Wenger is ready to bid for the Mainz 05 forward after missing out on previous targets like David Villa, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Fernando Llorente.
It claims the Gunners boss considers the Hungarian a more affordable option over the above names to help ease the centre-forward burden on summer recruit Olivier Giroud.
Theo Walcott has recently been deployed in the central role with mixed results, while Wenger appears to have abandoned the early season policy of using Gervinho in the role.
Szalai has already scored nine times in the Bundesliga as his club push for a Champions League spot, but the 25-year-old is hardly the big name Arsenal fans have been calling for in the transfer window.
Wenger could well need as many reinforcements as he can get his hands on in January, as the clash with Manchester City on Sunday starts a run of five games in two weeks.
