Chelsea appear set to miss out on midfielder Taison despite having an initial agreement in principal for the 25-year-old.

The Evening Standard reports that Metalist Kharkiv have raised the asking price for the player to £12.4 million, with the club hoping to secure a deal at that price with Shakhtar Donetsk.

That’s a figure almost £4 million more than what Chelsea had agreed before Christmas, according to the report, with new owners at the Ukrainian club preferring not to sell the player to the Blues.

If the west London outfit do still want the uncapped Brazilian, they’ll have to increase their original £8.5 million bid, and might be put off after these initial problems, according to the report.

The paper claims that Taison does favour a move to the Premier League, but that his most likely destination is now with Shakhtar.

Were Chelsea somehow able to reignite the deal, then Taison would join a number of compatriots at Stamford Bridge.

Interim manager Rafa Benitez has Oscar, David Luiz and Ramires at his disposal in the first team, but it appears that Taison will not be joining that select group of samba stars.

Manchester City had also been linked with a late move to 'hijack' the player's Chelsea switch, but it appears both English clubs are set to miss out on the player.
