Romelu Lukaku says he 'doesn’t care' about the comings and goings at Chelsea while he is on loan at West Brom – and has hinted he would be willing to stay at the Hawthorns beyond the end of the season.

Lukaku has been a hit since joining West Brom on a season-long loan last summer, scoring nine goals in 22 appearances including a brace in the Baggies defeat against Reading on Saturday.

Recent rumours suggested Chelsea were ready to recall the 19-year-old in January to help bolster their front line. However West Brom confirmed he would stay put for the rest of the season and the player himself says he doesn’t want to head back to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

“I don’t care about what Chelsea are doing at the moment. I’m thinking only of myself and West Brom,” he said. “I’ll hopefully stay here for the next two years.

“The next couple of years will be good for me at West Brom. It’s very important for me to play.

"We’ve a good squad, a manager who is very good, we’ve top players and hopefully, if I continue like this, I’ll get more regular football.

“It’s more beneficial to stay here than go back to Chelsea. We’ve not spoken yet but, hopefully after the January window, we’ll start talking about that.”

Despite the Belgian forward’s goal scoring exploits and all-round excellent performance, West Brom succumbed to a 3-2 defeat against Reading after leading 2-0 - and Lukaku blamed himself for the dramatic turnaround.

“I should have scored four and got one assist or something,” he said.

“I’m not happy with my performance because we didn’t win, we lost. It means I didn’t work hard enough, I didn’t score the other opportunities that I had.

“I’m scoring more goals but we’re not winning. You play to win and if we don’t win but I score it doesn’t matter. I want to score goals that win us games.

“Next match I have to work harder and hopefully do better for the team.”

Asked whether he was being unfair on himself, Lukaku said: “I’m always hard on myself, that’s the person I’ve always been.

“That’s the reason I was top scorer in Belgium at the age of 16 because I was tough on myself. I was never happy, I wanted to test myself every weekend.

“Every day is a new opportunity to improve. I’m not wasting my time. I’m taking the maximum out of it.”
