Bayern Munich have refuted reports linking the Bundesliga giants to former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola, according to The Independent.

The Spanish coach has been on the radar of Chelsea and Manchester City and he has also been tipped as the man who would replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford. But, last week it emerged that Bayern Munich were in the driving seat to land Guardiola.

However Bayern's media director, Markus Horwick, has denied Guardiola will become their next manager, calling the reports "complete rubbish".

"We are talking only with Jupp Heynckes," he told German newspaper Bild. "Jupp Heynckes is our one and only person to talk to."

Heynckes - the current Bayern boss - only has a contract until the end of the season, but the Bundesliga giants remain confident that they will be able to extend that deal beyond the end of the campaign.

Bayern's denial will start a race to land the Champions League winner, who quickly became the most successful Barcelona manager in their history in just four years in charge of the Catalan club.

Guardiola confirmed at the Ballon d'Or award ceremony that he would return to management at the end of the season, but admitted he did not know where yet. Chelsea will be desperate to lure Guardiola to Stamford Bridge as they still search for a permanent manager.
