Manchester United have received a timely injury boost after Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed both Nemanja Vidic and Ashley Young won’t face prolonged spells on the sidelines.
Both appeared to be in a race against time to feature in the match against Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Sunday after picking up injuries in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Liverpool.
Initially it was feared both players could be out for some time, with Vidic and Young both picking up what appeared to be knee injuries in Sunday’s 2-1 win at Old Trafford.
However Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Vidic should be fit to start against Spurs, and revealed the Serbian’s knee wasn’t the problem, but rather a concussion.
Young did indeed pick up a knee knock and will likely miss the Spurs game but, Ferguson says the former Aston Villa winger won’t be out for too long.
Actually, Nemanja's knee is okay," Ferguson told MUTV.
"It was concussion. He had a little bit of concussion but he's okay and fine. He trained yesterday and was good.
"Obviously, Young has got a dull knock, a little bit of a strain on the knee, but it's nothing serious.
"I think he'll be back next week. Maybe not for Tottenham (on Sunday) but, the week after, he should be okay."
Before then Manchester United face an FA Cup 3rd round replay against West Ham at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
Wayne Rooney is likely to make his return to the Red Devils first team for the first time since December, while Nani should also be involved.
