UEFA.com have revealed their team of 2012, as voted for by supporters, and once again the Premier League has been overlooked in favour of players from La Liga.

A record 5.3 million people cast votes to decide Europe's best XI, but there is no place for the likes of Robin van Persie, Vincent Kompany or Ashley Cole.

Cole received more support than any other Premier League player (115,000 votes), but the Chelsea star was still unable to make the final team.

Real Madrid star Iker Casillas was an unsurprising choice as the 2012 team's goalkeeper, while teammate Sergio Ramos and compatriot Gerard Pique were selected in defence.

Bayern Munich and Germany captain Philipp Lahm is also picked as one of the defenders, so is Thiago Silva - who joined Paris Saint-Germain for AC Milan for €42 million during the summer transfer window.

In midfield are team of the year veterans Andres Iniesta and Xavi, while the former received more votes than any other player with 351,015.

Joining the Barcelona duo in the middle of the park are Real Madrid's Mesut Ozil and Juventus star Andrea Pirlo, who was perhaps unlucky not to make the FIFA/FIFPRo World XI.

Radamel Falcao was included in that team, but not in the UEFA.com XI - with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi leading a supremely dangerous attack.
