Chelsea are in a sticky situation. After Southampton came from 2-0 down at half-time to earn a 2-2 draw in last night's clash at Stamford Bridge, Rafael Benitez's problems appear to be worsening.
Luckily, Chelsea have an owner who is willing to spend big to achieve success, but there’s one problem - Chelsea's track record of successful, high-profile additions has been poor in recent years. Think Fernando Torres, for example.
A few have hit the ground running, however. Juan Mata, Eden Hazard and Oscar have all impressed since making the move to Stamford Bridge. So if Abramovich does decide to invest this January, who should the Blues be looking to recruit?
Willian - Shakhtar Donetsk
Chelsea saw first-hand what Willian could do as he helped knock the Blues out of the Champions League group stages.
The 24-year-old primarily plays on the LW where Hazard has settled in nicely, but he can also operate as a central attacking midfielder or even as a centre-forward. Exactly what Chelsea want and need. They could even adopt Spain's false number nine formation, which would suit Willian well.
Marouane Fellaini - Everton
The whole Premier League has seen what Marouane Fellaini can do. He is strong and powerful in the air, and he can pick a pass nicely.
The Belgian starlet would be the ideal person to replace Frank Lampard who looks increasingly as though he's heading for the Stamford Bridge exit door when his contract expires this summer.
Iago Aspas - Celta Vigo
Iago Aspas is relatively unknown in England, but don't let that fool you.
The 25-year-old Spaniard plays for Celta Vigo and has drawn similarities to the Premier League's newest superstar, Michu.
Last season, Aspas scored 23 goals in 35 league appearances, and has followed that up with eight goals in 19 outings this term.
That record proves he'd be a valuable asset to the Chelsea squad, and he would be available at a reasonable price too, with reports suggesting the sought-after frontman has a release clause around the £8 million mark.
Radamel Falcao - Atletico Madrid
Chelsea fans everywhere are well aware of Radamel Falcao's ability, after he tore the Blues' defence apart during the Super Cup final, scoring a sensational hat-trick and single-handedly beating Roberto Di Matteo's side.
There’s only one problem with him though - his high price-tag doesn't guarantee success and Roman Abramovich may be hesitant to splash out a significant sum of money after the Fernando Torres disaster.
For me, Willian should be the number one target for Chelsea this January. He is familiar with a number of the Brazilian players already at the club, so settling in should be no problem.
On the pitch, Willian has bags of potential and a forward line of Hazard, Mata, Oscar and Willian is enough to strike fear into defenders all over the world.
