Manchester City midfielder Javi Garcia has emerged as a January transfer window target for Real Madrid, just six months after his move to the Etihad Stadium.

Garcia signed for Manchester City from Benfica on transfer deadline day in a deal worth £15.8 million but, according to the Daily Express, could join Real Madrid in the following window.

The 25-year-old began his career with Real Madrid, coming through the club's esteemed youth academy, and may seemingly complete a return to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Roberto Mancini, however, is likely to be reluctant to allow a prominent first-team player to leave at vital time of the season, particularly as Yaya Toure is away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Garcia has made 19 appearances for Manchester City this term, scoring two goals, and was signed to bolster the club's midfield following the departure of Nigel de Jong, but has failed to have as much impact as the player he replaced.

But the Spain international appears to have impressed the hierarchy at Real Madrid, and could reportedly be signed with Michael Essien and Luka Modric free to leave in the summer.
