Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell has revealed he even went to the lengths of moving house to try and solve his injury problems.
Rodwell has played just five times in the Premier League this season due to reoccurring problems with his hamstrings and he revealed the lengths he has gone to in his desperation to stay fit and play.
Citizens manager Roberto Mancini last week voiced concern over the 22-year-old’s long-term fitness because of the injuries troubles he has suffered, but was hopeful a solution could be found to get him on the pitch at the Etihad Stadium regularly.
Rodwell has left nothing to chance in his attempts to finding full fitness, and moving house was just one aspect that involved the car he drove, his sleeping conditions and taking some tips from a legend at rivals Manchester United.
“You have to rule everything out. I have changed my pillow and other silly stuff, but that’s part and parcel of being a footballer,” he said in an interview with the Manchester Evening News.
“I changed my car completely – I was in a sports car and changed to a Jeep which is more stable for the back and doesn’t put too much stress on it.
“I am also about 10 minutes drive from training now so don’t spend a lot of time in the car. I used to feel a little bit stiff. I moved so I don’t have to drive for too long to get there in the morning.
“I have also started doing yoga. A lot of people said the same happened for Ryan Giggs, that throughout his youth he got a lot of hamstrings. He started yoga, and so have I. I am just trying to do everything right.”
Rodwell joined Manchester City in the summer from Everton in a deal worth £13million, but the while of his early career has been blighted by injury.
His promise was there for all to see, however, and he has even earned two England caps in the past.
Having him back would be useful for Mancini as star midfielder Yaya Toure is currently away with Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations and is not expected back at the Etihad Stadium until mid-February.
