Video: Odemwingie wondergoal in vain after final whistle

Published 8 Comments

West Bromwich Albion came from behind to earn a point against Aston Villa at the weekend – but it could have been even better if Peter Odemwingie’s wondergoal took place before the final whistle.

The Nigerian striker, who had not scored for over 15 hours of play, struck an 83rd minute equaliser for Steve Clarke’s side after Christian Benteke and Gabriel Agbonlahor had put the visitors ahead in the first period. Chris Brunt netted the first for the Baggies.

And, in an even later twist, Odemwingie smashed the ball goalwards as the referee blew for full-time. Low and behold, the shot rocketed towards the net and flew over the head of Brad Guzan.

Whether the American stopper would have been able to get to the ball if the game was still on, we’ll never know. It might just persuade Odemwingie to try his luck once again in the future, however, and who knows what might happen. We could have another 'Beckham moment' on our hands.

Watch the brilliant video below and let us know what you think is the best ‘halfway-line’ goal….
