Tottenham Hotspur have been given a boost in their chase for Moroccan playmaker Younes Belhanda after his club’s president revealed he didn’t want to sell to one of Spurs’ rivals for his signature.
Andre Villas-Boas has been credited with an interest in the 22-year-old but Turkish side Fenerbache were reportedly close to his signature after their president claimed personal terms had been agreed.

However, they said a fee was yet to be agreed with Montpellier for the player and the club’s president Louis Nicollin has made it seem like this may not come to pass.
He denied knowing of any teams other than Fenerbache being after Belhanda but insisted he only wanted to sell his players to teams from the Bundesliga or Premier League.
“Apart from Turkey I do not know who wants [him], but Turkey is complicated,” he said in l’Equipe.
“I’ll only sell my players to English and German clubs.”
A Tottenham move for Belhanda would give them further options in wide positions but the Morocco international is more comfortable playing in a central playmaker role, leaving him contending with Clint Dempsey and Mousa Dembele in that area.
Belhanda will be hoping he can secure a move away from the Ligue 1 champions in January because it doesn’t sound like he is too welcome anymore, neither is imminent Newcastle United signing Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.
“Belhanda and Mapou, it was set in their heads what they wanted,” he added.
“Do I want them now? No. They showed a lack of professionalism, which is evident in view of the wages they were seeking.”
