€15m Bundesliga striker not thinking about Arsenal move

Published 1 Comments

Arsenal striker target Adam Szalai admits the chances of him leaving Mainz 05 in the January transfer window are slim.

The 25-year-old forward has been in fine form for the Bundesliga outfit this season, notching 11 goals in all competitions for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

It’s led to speculation over a €15million move away from the Coface Arena, but Szalai is focused on Mainz and admits a switch to the Emirates Stadium is now looking improbable.

"There hasn't been any connection made with the clubs who have been reported in the press, so I don't have to think about being an Arsenal striker,” he told German TV on Monday.

"It's improbable that I'll go anywhere in the winter transfer window and that €15million will be paid for me."

Mainz revealed earlier in the month that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger had not been in contact over the Hungarian international, who has also been linked with Wolfsburg, Lazio and Borussia Dortmund.

The Gunners are light of options in attack, with Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott the only senior options currently available to the manager.

Szalai would add an additional threat to the Arsenal front-line, but a move to north London now looks unlikely with just over a week left in the January transfer window.
