The 17-year-old defender was spotted by Premier League scouts during a recent outing with the Scottish First Division side's reserve team, catching the eye with an impressive performance.
Chief scout, Martin Ferguson - brother of Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson - filed a glowing report on Donaldson, who has now been invited to train at Carrington, with a view to a potential move to Old Trafford.
"Coll was watched by Manchester United in a couple of reserve games and Martin Ferguson wondered if they could have a look at him," explained Livingston chief executive Ged Nixon.
"They're looking after him and he'll train with them before they decide what they want to do."
Nixon explained that Livingston would not stand in Donaldson's way, to complete a dream move to Manchester United, with such opportunities arising very rarely for young players in Scotland.
As such, the centre-back travels to England with his current club's blessing, with everyone at the Almondvale Stadium wishing the teen talent every success during his time training with the Premier League giants.
"It's a fantastic opportunity for the boy," he added. "No matter what happens in the end, it will let him see what's out there and he'll train in fantastic surroundings at Carrington."
