Napoli weigh up move for Arsenal goalkeeper
Arsenal transfer news: Napoli plot move for Gunners shot-stopper Vito Mannone
Napoli are considering a bid for Arsenal shot-stopper Vito Mannone, according to sources in Italy.
A talkSPORT report claims the Italian side are looking for a long-term understudy to 35-year-old first-choice stopper Morgan De Sanctis, and the Serie 'A' club believe Mannone could be their goalkeeper for the future.
The 24-year-old Italy youth international has made just a handful of Premier League appearances for the Gunners during his six-and-a-half years at the Emirates Stadium, and the report claims he could be persuaded to return to his homeland.
The Italian deputised for the injured Wojciech Szczesny during the early parts of this season, but Mannone is very much seen as a back-up by the Arsenal staff, and perhaps even third choice behind Lukasz Fabianski.
Mannone has had spells on loan at Hull City and Barnsley in the Championship, but has failed to establish himself as a contender for Szczesny's number one jersey.
And the former-Atalanta youth team player may see a return to Italy as his best chance of playing regular first-team top-flight football.
Napoli are currently flying high in Serie 'A' - they lie second behind defending champions Juventus, and are well-placed to secure Champions League football for next season.
Arsenal face West Ham in the Premier League on Wednesday night, and Arsene Wenger's side will be keen to get back to winning ways after their 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last weekend.
