Who could replace Mario Balotelli at Manchester City?
With a possible move to AC Milan who could replace the Italian at the Etihad Stadium?
With reports suggesting Mario Balotelli's entertaining stay at Manchester City could be coming to an end, here's a look at who could replace the beguiling Italian:
Robert Lewandowski, Borrusia Dortmund:
The Polish centre forward is rated as one of the best strikers in the world, after leading Dortmund to their second consecutive Bundesliga title last year.
With 22 goals in the league last season and 11 in 17 games this time around, he has shown the ability to finish, not only with his predominant right foot, but also with his head; using a 6ft frame and tremendous leaping ability to out jump defenders.
His positioning and work rate is what sets him apart, willing to run all day long, and having the tactical awareness to exploit mistakes to the full - a nice change to the usually apathetic Balotelli.
Although the Polish star would be a wonderful signing at the Etihad Stadium, I think they already have their tall enterprising centre forward in Edin Dzeko, and with the Bosnian's recent form there's not room for two such players.
Stevan Jovetic, Fiorentina:
Jovetic is a technically gifted forward, capable of playing out wide, up front, or sitting in the hole behind the striker.
The Montenegrin is an all round player capable of finishing from in or outside the box, with 14 goals last year in the Serie A. An expert at linking up play with his passing and movement, he has shown the ability to finish from the penalty spot as well.
As a direct replacement for Balotelli, Jovetic is probably the best option, being only 23 he has the best years of his career ahead of him and also room for development.
The only issue I see is that the young starlet has a terrible injury record, missing the entire 2010-11 season due to cruciate ligament damage, undergoing surgery; and has never played more than 29 Serie A games.
If he can stay healthy he could be one of the best in the world but it's a risk, City do have the money to find out though.
Mats Hummels, Borrusia Dortmund:
Hummels, at 24-years-old, is already one of the best centre backs in the world, and since City already have three world class strikers, why not give the defence a boost with the young Bundesliga star.
The German is a playmaking centre back in the mould of legend, and countryman Franz Beckenbauer, exhibiting similar long passing ability and tendency to start attacks from the back.
Hummels is also great at anticipating the flow of the game, often frustrating opponents with well timed tackles and interceptions; at 6ft 3 he also has the stature and physical strength to beat other players in the air.
I think Hummels would be the best option for City to replace Balotelli with, as the partnership with Vincent Kompany would instantly become the best in the Premier League, and still give City another playmaker.
