Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that his side have to show the same temperament and distinction for the rest of the season, as they did against West Ham last night.

The Gunners ran riot in the second half scoring four goals in ten minutes, including two from Frenchman Olivier Giroud and a beautiful goal from Santi Cazorla, as Arsenal recorded their first win of 2013 with a 5-1 victory over the Hammers.

Wenger told the club’s official website: “I was worried that they are a bit sometimes inhibited in the recent big games from the start on.

“But this team has a fantastic mentality and good quality, that’s what we want to show until the end of the season now.”

It looked like a repeat of the previous two Premier League fixtures for Arsenal, as Jack Collison put the visitors ahead after 18 minutes, but Lukas Podolski pulled one back just four minutes later.

Wenger added: “Yes, at 1-0 down, if you concede the second goal [it can go the other way].

“But the Premier League is like that. Everybody can score against everybody and everybody is in trouble as soon as you are not at your best.”

German striker Podolski became the first player this season to bag a hat trick of assists, as he set up the last three goals of the game.

His second assist was the pick of the lot, smashing a spectacular early cross into the path of the lightning quick Theo Walcott to chip over oncoming goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen to make it 4-1 to the home side.

The Frenchman said: “He [Podolski] had an outstanding game tonight. He scored a very important goal.

“He has an unbelievable shot because the keeper had no chance. After he gave two great balls as well.”

With the former Bayern Munich man setting up his team mates on three occasions, he was able to maintain his record of every time he nets, Arsenal score five or more goals, having scored in the 7-3 victory over Newcastle and the 5-2 win at Reading.

The Arsenal boss said: “It was his most efficient game because I felt he took responsibility when we needed him.

“With a player of his experience you expect him to do that.”
