Liverpool consider move for £5m Argentine star

Published 2 Comments

Sevilla defender Federico Fazio has emerged as a reported target for Liverpool as Brendan Rodgers strives to make reinforcements before the close of the January transfer window.

According to the Daily Express, the Liverpool manager is hopeful of making further additions prior to the transfer deadline, and has identified Fazio as a potential acquisition.

Liverpool have already signed Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea to reinforce their forward department, but the focus now appears to have switch to defence as the window edges closer to its end.

Hoffenheim are set to rival Liverpool for Fazio, however, and the Bundesliga club have already reportedly had two bids rejected for the £5 million-rated Argentina international.

Should the 25-year-old move to Liverpool, he would join a roster of central defenders including the likes of unquestioned first-choice pairing Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger, along with back-up defenders Jamie Carragher and Sebastien Coates.

Carragher, meanwhile, has this week revealed his frustration at now playing more regularly during the twilight of his career, and the 34-year-old is unsure whether he will be offered a new contract at the end of the season.
