Liverpool are set to hold talks with Manchester United transfer target Pepe Reina over his future at the club.
The 30-year-old Spanish international is on the Red Devils radar, according to The Daily Star, with the newspaper reporting that Sir Alex Ferguson is weighing up a £15million move for the player earlier in the week.
And, now Metro claims that Reina’s representatives are to sit down with the Anfield outfit in the coming days, with the club looking to get a clearer picture on the stopper’s future.
Agent Manuel Garcia Quilon is also looking to get an idea of what direction Liverpool boss Brenand Rodgers is hoping to take the club, according to the report.
Reina still has three years left on his contract, but his father recently talked up the opportunity of his son leaving Merseyside for Barcelona.
“Pepe has shown sufficient proof of the calibre of goalkeeper he is and right now – and sorry for the lack of modesty – he would be up to the task and the ideal keeper for FC Barcelona,” said Miguel Reina, according to the paper.
And, whilst the reference was to the Catalan giants, Reina snr’s comments are unlikely to have gone unnoticed by the Manchester United hierarchy, given the club's reported interest.
Ferguson is said to be in the market for a new No.1, with the Scot worried about David De Gea being targeted with high balls – an area of apparent weakness at Old Trafford.
Reina is one of the players who could replace his compatriot, whilst Bosnian international Asmir Begovic has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
