Arsene Wenger is notorious for his lack of spending in the January transfer window, and has even gone as far as saying the window should be axed.
But I'm going to ignore that for a moment and just imagine that Wenger has decided to go on a spending spree, parting with some of the club's hard-earned cash.
If Wenger was to spend big on one of Europe's up and coming talents, that money should defiantly go towards luring Stevan Jovetic to the Emirates Stadium.
Jovetic is widely regarded as one of the best young players in the game, currently plying his trade in the Serie A with Fiorentina. He ticks all the boxes (except costing money) that a typical Wenger signing would require:
The Montenegro international possesses fabulous technical ability with a great first touch to match, putting him in a position to pass with efficiency and unlock defences, whilst he can cross the ball extremely well from both sides of the pitch. Jovetic is two-footed, takes a great penalty, free-kick and corner, and he is an all round top talent who at times, resembles a young Robin van Persie.
Wenger demands that all his players can at least play in two positions, giving him the ability to change tactics during games without changing personnel. Jovetic can play up front as he has an eye for goal, shown by his tally of eight goals in the Serie A this year. He can play on either wing cutting in from the left-hand side or whipping crosses in from the right, and can also play as a creator sitting behind the striker in the traditional trequartista role. Jovetic is effectively a technically proficient version of Theo Walcott - and a step up in quality too.
He's 23-years-old, so maybe just too old for a typical Wenger signing, with the French boss regularly bringing young players up with the 'Arsenal philosophy'. However, Jovetic was out for a year with a severe injury, and still has a lot of room to grow as a footballer.
All in all I believe Jovetic could be the man to take Arsenal to the next level. Do you agree? Leave a comment below and let us know what you think.
