Newcastle United are the latest Premier League club to be linked with a move for highly-rated St Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The 23-year-old striker is also on the radar of both Manchester United and Manchester City, with the Gabon international confirming that the Premier League title rivals have made contact over his services.
“There have been contacts with the Manchester clubs. I’m being followed in Italy too, especially by Fiorentina, and another big club,” he said a fortnight ago.
The Sun now claims that Magpies chief Alan Pardew is looking to bring the player to St James’ Park in the final days of the transfer window, in a deal that would see the £10million-rated Gabon international become the club’s sixth French-speaking signature during the month of January.
Mathieu Debuchy, Yoan Gouffran, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Massadio Haidara and Moussa Sissoko have already swapped Ligue 1 for Newcastle United, although striker Demba Ba left for pastures new away from Tyneside.
Manchester United have been much more quiet in the window, although the addition of Wilfried Zaha at the end of last week is one for the future at Old Trafford.
Sir Alex Ferguson also has plenty of options up-front already, with Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck all vying for chances in the Red Devils starting line-up.
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is another manager who has plenty of attacking players at his disposal, with four internationals fighting for position at the Etihad Stadium.
However, Italian forward Mario Balotelli has been linked with a move away from the Citizens, and his exit could create a space for Aubemayang if the club wish to pursue his signature further.
A move to either Manchester club looks unlikely however, and ‘The King of Bling’ – a nickname earned after wearing £2,500 crystal-covered boots in December – now looks set to either stay in France or move to Newcastle.
