Chelsea dealt blow as Mourinho makes case for Inter Milan return

Published 10 Comments

Jose Mourinho has revealed he could go back to Inter Milan at the end of the season, rather than return to Chelsea, reports the Daily Star.

The Real Madrid boss - who celebrated his 50th birthday on Saturday - is expected to leave the Spanish capital in the summer, amid rumours of a bust-up with a large contingent of his Santiago Bernabeu squad.

Recent reports have suggested that Mourinho is in line to return to Stamford Bridge, as a replacement for unpopular interim manager Rafa Benitez, after Pep Guardiola agreed to join Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich from the start of next season.

The Portuguese tactician is believed to have been in regular contact with Blues owner Roman Abramovich, liaising with the Russian billionaire to offer advice on footballing matters, ever since Roberto Di Matteo was sacked by the club back in November.

However, Chelsea's hopes of enticing Mourinho back to west London have been dealt a blow, after the Real Madrid coach revealed his desire to return to Italian football.

"There are a lot of things to do and one of them might be to come back to Inter, why not?" he told Rai Sport Italia. "It was the best trophy; it was great to lend a hand to spread so much happiness around."

Mourinho enjoyed a successful two-year spell at the San Siro, during which time he secured a first ever Italian treble with Inter Milan, winning Serie A, the Coppa Italia, and the Champions League in 2010.

This year, he is bidding to become the first manager to win the European Cup with three different clubs, and hopes to sign off from his current position in style, by securing Real Madrid a record tenth competition crown.

"I shall win the cup again, I don't know whether with Real Madrid this year, as everything is very even, but my third Champions League will come," Mourinho added.

"What I can't say is that I shall get it this season, but in the 15 or 20 years I have remaining as a manager I shall get it."
