Sturridge signing a stroke of genius at Liverpool?

Liverpool's over-reliance on forward Luis Suarez to provide the firepower the club needs to reach Europe is well-documented.

Suarez has scored 16 league goals this season, scoring 40% of his side's total goals. However, Suarez now has a partner to help him fire Liverpool up the table, by the name of England international Daniel Sturridge.

Frustrated with being stuck on the bench at Chelsea despite the clear struggles of Fernando Torres, Sturridge headed north and has appeared to settle in well at Liverpool, scoring three times in three starts for the club.

In the recent 5-0 win over Norwich, the link-up play between the two was excellent, and a formidable partnership seems to be in the making.

Liverpool have struggled in the goals department for the past few seasons, despite taking the third most amount of shots.

Inefficiency has again cost the club this season, as they sit 7th, 22 points behind leaders Manchester United. Their position contradicts the statistics, which show that Liverpool enjoy the most amount of possession this season, averaging 59.4% of the ball per game and top the average shot count as well, averaging 19.3 shots per game.

An inability to finish their chances, as well as an over-reliance on Suarez to both create and score are hurting Liverpool.

Sturridge, however, has taken some of the pressure off Suarez, allowing the Uruguayan magician to drop deeper and do more damage, without the added pressure that comes with being a lead striker.

Sturridge has settled in quickly, and with his talent, could be one of the great January bargains. Brendan Rodgers will be hoping that Sturridge and Suarez can link-up and together, they can fire Liverpool up the table, this season and beyond.
