Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has missed out on another French target after promising Bastia winger Florian Thauvin opted against joining them.
The Gunners boss was linked with a bid for the 20-year-old but he has opted to instead move to Ligue 1 side Lille, according to talkSPORT.
The report claims Thauvin was tempted by a move to Emirates Stadium but was worried how a switch to England so early in his career could affect his development.
Lille are reportedly paying £3.5million for the France Under-20 international and the completed deal is expected to be announced shortly.
Wenger is not having a great deal of luck with transfers so far in this window, with other reported target, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, joining Newcastle United earlier in the week.
Arsenal have the best part of two days to add a new recruit to a squad that has suffered from inconsistency this season.
Their indifferent run is undermining their efforts to get back into the top four and the subsequent crucial Champions League qualification.
Wenger has been linked with a late bid for Barcelona striker David Villa, though he may struggle to land the Spain international as the Catalan club have maintained they are not interested in selling him.
