Brazilian star set for temporary Tottenham exit

Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes is set for a loan move to the Bundesliga to join Hoffenheim, reports The Independent.

The 31-year-old Brazilian revealed on Twitter this morning that he was on his way to Germany for a medical.

Gomes had been second-choice stopper behind Brad Friedel at White Hart Lane, but is now even further down the pecking order following the summer arrival of France international captain Hugo Lloris.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas allowed Carlo Cudicini to leave north London for LA Galaxy earlier this month, and now it looks as though the former PSV Eindhoven star will follow him out of the exit door, albeit only until the end of the season.

Gomes's last Tottenham appearance came in the Europa League in November 2011, and now he is keen to get back to playing regular first-team football.

The South American was reportedly keen to secure a move back to his homeland or return to the Netherlands in order to try to win back his place in the national squad ahead of the 2014 World Cup. But, now Gomes looks set to sign a six-month contract in Germany.

Hoffenheim are 17th in the Bundesliga table and have the worst defensive record in the top flight. They haven't won a game in the league since Nov 3, when they beat Schalke 04.
