Chelsea and Manchester City have lost out in the race to sign promising young England goalkeeper Jack Butland – to Stoke City.
The Birmingham City goalkeeper was linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge and the Etihad Stadium, among other destinations, but Stoke boss Tony Pulis has beaten his more illustrious rivals to him.
BBC Sport have even reported that Butland turned down the chance to speak with Chelsea over a move because he wanted more of a chance to play first team football.
Petr Cech is the undisputed number one at Stamford Bridge and at only 30 years age he is unlikely to be relinquishing the role any time soon.
The 19-year-old reportedly also turned down Manchester City, where his prospects of getting in the starting XI would likely be even slimmer, what with Joe Hart in his prime and securing the number one spot for club and country.
The BBC report claims the £4million deal to take Butland to Stoke will likely see him loaned back to Birmingham for the remainder of this season.
This could be an indicator that Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool target Asmir Begovic will leave in the summer, as he recently confirmed he would be staying with the Britannia Stadium outfit in January.
