Arsenal are brokering a last-minute deal for Spain international full-back Nacho Monreal, according to The Mirror.

The report claims the Malaga defender has travelled to London to finalise terms on a deal worth £6million before the transfer window closes at 11pm.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hinted he would sign a new left-back after his first choice in the position, Kieran Gibbs, was ruled out for three weeks after picking up a thigh strain in the 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Wednesday night.

The Emirates Stadium crowd groaned when Brazilian replacement Andre Santos was forced to enter the fray after half an hour.

Santos has become a target for Gunners fans' ire because of terrible form recently and another report by The Mirror claimed Wenger had lost faith in the 29-year-old.

Malaga’s financial woes mean they are likely unable to turn down any serious bid for their stars, though £6million for a 26-year-old Spain international could be seen as something of a bargain.

Monreal will join former Malaga teammate and current Arsenal star, Santi Cazorla, should the move be finalised in time.
