Roma goalkeeper Mauro Goicoechea had an evening to forget last night (Friday), scoring a nightmare own goal in defeat to Cagliari.

The Giallorossi were making a good fist of their match at the Stadio Olimpico, with Francesco Totti scoring an equaliser for the hosts in the first-half.

However, the match turned on its head in the opening moments of the second period, with Goicoechea inexplicably throwing the ball into his own net from a routine cross from Danilo Avelar.

Roma were never able to recover, and eventually lost the Serie ‘A’ match 4-2.

And, if things weren’t bad enough, manager Zdenek Zeman has since been sacked after the latest embarrassing loss. They sit eighth in the table and haven’t won in 2013.
