Manchester City will use money from the Mario Balotelli sale to land either Cristiano Ronaldo or Radamel Falcao in the summer, according to Metro.

Roberto Mancini failed to replace the controversial striker after he completed his move to AC Milan on January transfer deadline day and the report claims the Citizens manager intends to keep the money back to fund a move for one of the two La Liga superstars.

It claims the Etihad Stadium outfit are keen to make a marquee signing in the summer and there would be fewer high profile moves than them bringing Cristiano Ronaldo, former star of fierce rivals Manchester United, back to the Premier League.

Ronaldo had a nightmare for Real Madrid at the weekend, scoring an own goal in a 1-0 win for minnows Granada against Jose Mourinho’s side on Saturday night.

Falcao was also subdued but his Atletico Madrid side ran out 1-0 victors to take their lead over their city rivals in the league to seven points.

A move for a big name striker sounds all the more likely after Mancini’s comments following the 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Sunday evening.

The Italian criticised City’s strikers for their failure to take and create more chances in recent games as they have seen the gap between them and United increase to nine points.

Reports of Cristiano Ronaldo being unsettled at Real Madrid have persisted from early in the season and the Metro report claims City and PSG are the only two clubs likely to be able to afford him and offer him a high enough level of football.
