Liverpool full-back Glen Johnson has heaped praise on fellow England teammate Ashley Cole - as the Chelsea star prepares to receive his 100th cap.

Cole is in line to reach a century of caps when England take on Brazil at Wembley on Wednesday.

And Johnson, who operates primarily as a right-back on the opposite flank to Cole, reckons no one deserves the accolade more than the Chelsea full-back.

Speaking to the FA.com before the friendly, Johnson said: "He has been a key member for any team he has been involved in for many, many years.

"It's fantastic for him and, for me, nobody deserves it more. It was great to see Stevie [Gerrard] get it not so long ago, and Ash has been in the set-up for many, many years and thoroughly deserves it."

The two defenders should be in for a tough test on Wednesday, as they look to get to grips with the likes of Neymar and Ronaldinho.

And Johnson admits it's going to be a tricky assignment.

"They'll have some fantastic players that's for sure. They'll obviously be a great side and it will be a tough, tough game but we've been hard to beat lately so if that continues we'll do well."

Johnson has 45 caps to his name, and the 28-year-old went on to reveal that Cole's longevity has inspired him to go and try to match the former-Arsenal full-back.

When asked whether Cole's achievement will spur on his own effort to join the 100 club, Johnson said: "Yeah. I'm happy with what I'm doing and how I'm playing at the moment so the longer that continues the better."
